Sovereign Sacrifice (Air Awakens: Vortex Chronicles, #4)Review:
I wish Elise Kova was a more widely known author. She is honestly just incredible. I absolutely adored this latest installment of the Vortex Chronicles. The way Kova ties the events in this book to all of the previous stories has me in awe of her writing abilities.
I love Vi and the path she is trying to follow in this book. I’m not going to get into too many details because this is book four in a series (and also a sister series to another five-book series). But, the way that Vi handles herself and uses her magic is interesting and I really enjoyed her trying new things and working on changing the outcome of the world.
I wish there was more going on with Taavin. I know he’s in the story, but I felt like his parts were minimal and I’m not sure where his path is headed.
I absolutely adored meeting all of the characters I already know. I won’t say too much about this. But I think Vi being in a world I know from somewhere else was so much fun. Seeing what parts she played was beyond interesting.
Overall, I really cannot wait to read the final book in this series. I love all these characters. I love their goals and their adventures. I love their relationships. I loved this book very much a lot.

“The world was a puppet, and it was her job to pull the strings.”

“I don’t know what pain fuels your flames, but I can see you’re burning alive.”

“You keep looking back. Those decisions have been made and the ink in the history books is already dry. Keep your eyes forward.”

“She felt herself burning from the inside out with a fire she’d never known before. A fire that felt like it could light the whole world.”

Failed Future by Elise Kova

GoodReads Summary:
When worlds collide, and things are rarely what they seem, there may be no one Vi can trust.
Having forsaken her crown for a chance to save her family, and the world, Vi Solaris washes up on the shores of Meru. She’s wounded and barely alive. But Vi’s fight for survival is only just beginning.
As a princess in a foreign land, everyone is after her.
The pirate queen Adela wants to sell her to the evil elfin’ra. The Twilight King wants to use her to settle an old score. And, perhaps most dangerous, is the scheming Lord of the Faithful who sees her as an opportunity to further consolidate his power.
The only path for Vi is forward. But she doesn’t yet know if she’s running toward salvation… or a brutal end to everything she loves.
Vi’s journey continues with even more betrayal, romance, magic, and a twist you never saw coming that leaves readers begging for the next book.
Failed Future (Air Awakens: Vortex Chronicles, #3)Review:
Elise Kova has done it again. I stayed up until almost three in the morning last night (this morning?) to finish Failed Future. I am going to die waiting for book four to come out in October.
At this point, Vi Solaris has been through the freaking ringer. Betrayed by those she thought loyal, injured on the Crescent Continent, being hunted down by pirates. She faces many challenges and manages to overcome most of them. She does the things that need to be done, even if those things may be a little bit unsavory. Vi deals with ups and downs in Failed Future, meeting new people and doing whatever it takes to rescue her father and then save the world.
The Crescent Continent is something I’ve been dying to know more about since I read Air Awakens. We get to see the Twilight Forest, which was totally my favorite. I really hope we get to go back there. We see the pirate’s lair which was not my favorite and definitely worse for the wear after Vi was done there. Then we get to see Meru and the place that Taavin has spent his life.
Taavin…was a lot in this book. We learn about his past and the things he’s done in order to stay alive and well. Some not so great things. I am really torn with Taavin after this installment of the series. I loved him so much I the previous books but after some of the stunts he pulls, I’m not sure how to feel. Then he may or may not have redeemed himself in the final pages.
The final few chapters were confusing and I don’t totally understand what happened. But if I’m right about what I do understand then I’m pretty blown away. The little connections that Kova has been able to make between these books and the original series in this same world are beyond incredible. So many things in the Solaris family history, way in the past along with the events in the Air Awakens series, are brought to Vi’s attention. She learns things about her parents and her family history. The way that all of these things connect and bring the story together is just a testament to Kova’s writing talent. She really knows how to create a story that you want to be invested in.
Overall, no surprise here that I really enjoyed this third installment of a series I’m pretty obsessed with. I will forever recommend this series at any and every chance that I get, so stop reading this review and go read the first book in the first series.

Vortex Visions by Elise Kova

Vi Solaris is the heir to an Empire she’s barely seen. Her parents sacrificed a life with her to quell a rebellion and secure peace with a political alliance. Now, three years past when her wardship should’ve ended, Vi will do anything to be reunited with her family.
The Empire is faltering beneath the burden of political infighting and a deadly plague. Yet, Vi can’t help but wonder if her inability to control her magic is the true reason her parents haven’t brought her home. Suspicion becomes reality when she unleashes powers she’s not supposed to have.
Powers that might well cost her the throne.
As Vi fights to get her magic under control, a mysterious stranger appears from across the world. He holds the keys to unlocking her full potential, but the knowledge has an unspeakable price — some truths, once seen, cannot be ignored.
All eyes are on her and Vi must make the hardest choice of her life: Play by the rules and claim her throne. Or, break them and save the world.
Vortex Visions (Air Awakens: Vortex Chronicles #1)Review:
No surprise here, I absolutely loved this book. I loved everything about it. It’s taking everything in me right now to sit and write this review instead of starting the second book right now. I need to know what’s going to happen next.
I still adore this world. (check out my series review here for the original series!) I think the world that Elise Kova has created is so interesting and I really enjoyed getting to see more of in from Vi’s perspective. I’m hoping we get some more travel scenes like we did in the original series.
Vi’s character was my favorite. She’s snarky and sassy but also trying her best to be the perfect princess that she thinks she’s supposed to be. I loved her inner thoughts and struggles. I cannot wait to get to know Vi a little bit better. I also really hope we get to see some of my old favorites.
I have to mention that Elise Kova doesn’t pull any punches. I did some jaw-dropping and page gripping and mild inner shrieking. I read this book almost in one sitting because I adore these characters and I needed to know what was going to happen to them. There is so much up in the air and so many new things being introduced I really am too excited to continue this series in the world I already love so much.
