Amanda’s Tome Topple Wrap Up

Hello, lovelies! Today, I just want to share with you how I did for Tome Topple round fourteen. This latest round of Tome Topple was exactly what I needed to get some big books off my TBR. If you missed my TBR post with all the details you can find it here. I’ll share the prompts below and what I read for each of them.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is tome-topple-round-14.jpg

Tome that’s been on my TBR the longest
I didn’t complete this prompt.

An audiobook tome
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
I really like the narrator for this series.

Tome with the most pages
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
I am honestly so over this series. But I tackled the shit out of this one.

Seasonally colored cover
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
Pretty yellow for the spring time.

Read one tome
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
I’m living for this reread of the Grishaverse.

Tome by a BIPOC author
The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winters
I started this one, but haven’t finished it yet.

Tome in a genre I don’t usually read
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
I usually end up loving the historical fiction that I read, but it’s not a genre I often pick up.

Tome from a series I haven’t read in a while
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Literally, all of the books on this list would fit this prompt.

Tome that I started in a previous Tome Topple round
Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare
I think I actually read and completed this book for a previous round of Tome Topple. But I tried to start Chain of Iron and realized I needed to reread this one first.

What did you read for Tome Topple?

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Amanda’s Tome Topple TBR

Hi, lovelies! I’ve just seen the announcement for Sam’s latest round of Tome Topple (watch the announcement video here.) You can find all of the hosts of the readathon here: Sam from Thoughts on Tomes, Adri from Perpetual Page, Sam 2 from Will Read For Booze, Gaia from @lalettricesegreta on Instagram, Tori from Tori Morrow, Jocelyn from Yogi With A Book. I love this readathon because it’s a great motivator for me to finally pick up some of the bigger books that I have on my TBR. The rules for this readathon are simple: read books that are 500 pages or longer. There is a fun bingo board for this round and I will list the prompts below. This round of Tome Topple will run from March 15th-28th.

Tome that’s been on my TBR the longest
The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
This has been on my TBR for so long and I’ve put it on several TBR’s for previous Tome Topple rounds. I honestly probably won’t get to this one, but I like to have options when I make TBR’s like this.

An audiobook tome
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
I’ve been rereading this series via audiobook so that I can read the newest release (Winterkeep), so this is the perfect choice for this prompt.

Tome with the most pages
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
Technically, the next book in this series is the tome with the most pages that’s on my TBR. But obviously I have to finish this one first. This one will count for several prompts too since I will probably continue the audiobook that I started the last round of Tome Topple.

Seasonally colored cover
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
Yellow is a springtime color right? I’m going with it.

Read one tome
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
I’ve been working my way through a reread of all the books in the Grishaverse so that it’s all fresh in my mind for both the Netflix adaptation release in April and the publication of the second book in the Nikolai duology, which is coming in the end of March.

Tome by a BIPOC author
The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winters
I don’t know that I’ll get to this one, but I’ve heard incredible things about this book so I’m excited to read it.

Tome in a genre I don’t usually read
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
Historical fiction/fantasy? I read some historical fiction/fantasy, but it’s definitely one of the genres I read the least from.

Tome from a series I haven’t read in a while
Gilded Serpent by Danielle L. Jensen
This is an eARC that’s on my TBR and the only ARC I have that’s more than 500 pages. I haven’t read this series since the second book was released, so I’m excited to get back into this world.

Tome that I started in a previous Tome Topple round
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
I started this in the last Tome Topple. I’m trying really hard to finished what’s published in this series this year, but sometimes these books are just so slow. I’ve heard things pick up again toward the end of this book.

Are you going to participate in this round of Tome Topple? What’s on your TBR? If not, what books over 500 pages are you hoping to read soon?

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Tome Topple Wrap Up

Hello friends! This readathon seemed to fly by! We hope that everyone else had as great a time as we have. Tome Topple is always fun and a satisfying way to knock out those big books on our TBR.

Read more than one tome

Amanda- I managed to read more than one Tome! See which titles below.

Antonia- I successfully read more than one Tome! See which ones below.

Read the tome that’s been on your tbr the longest

Amanda- Renegades by Marissa Meyer

Antonia- Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get to this one.

Read a tome that is part of a series

Amanda- The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

Antonia- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling.

Read a tome from a genre you don’t usually read

Amanda- Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin. I’m sticking with fantasy because even though all of the books I read for Tome Topple were fantasy, I haven’t been able to actually read any of this genre and really love it until this round of the readathon.

Antonia- I did not have time to do this category.

Read a tome that’s an adult novel

Amanda- The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty

Antonia- The Liar by Nora Roberts

How did everyone else do for Tome Topple? Let us know what you’ve been reading in the comments!

Amanda’s Tome Topple TBR

Hi, lovelies! Tome Topple Round Eight! This round of Tome Topple will be running from the 13th-26th. If you’re new here check out Sam, the creator of Tome Topple, in her video here. Tome Topple is a readathon where we will only be reading books that are  500 pages or more. It’s a chance to tackle those intimidating books that are huge and taking up space on our TBR shelves. This is one of my favorite readathons because I always feel super motivated to read a ton and topple those tomes! There are a few optional challenges that  I like to use to make my TBR list for each round.

Tome Topple Readathon Wrap Up

Hello again bookfriends! We have finished another round of Tome Topple Reading Challenge. For those of you that are new here, feel free to watch Sam’s video about Tome Topple here! I usually set high goals for myself, but tried to aim a little lower this round.

10743483728_img_3104

Here’s my bookish breakdown:

A tome that is a part of a series

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

An adult novel

The Recovering: Intoxication and its Aftermath by Leslie Jamison

Read more than one tome

City of Glass by Cassandra Clare & The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I managed to read four whole books for Tome Topple. I listened to The Recovering as an audiobook that I borrowed from my library. I thought it was incredible well written and thoughtful. I own the other three books so I read the physical copies. I’m super happy with my results for this reading challenge!

Did you participate in Tome Topple this round? What / how many books did you read? Let me know in the comments!

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Tome Topple Challenge – Wrap Up

Hi, bookworms! We’re back again with the Tome Topple Readathon Challenge. This time it’s to give an update about how we did! Tome Topple has officially ended, sadly. It was a fun challenge and great to help us get some of the bigger books on our TBR lists knocked off. While our TBR lists are forever getting longer instead of shorter, this challenge helped us get through a few of the longer books for sure.

Amanda

I managed to get through three and a half books! I started off with Stormcaster by Cinda Williams Chima (review here.) The third book in the Shattered Realms series was amazing. I can’t wait for the fourth book to be released next year. This book was my ‘tome that’s part of a series’ for the readathon. Next, I picked up Triangles by Ellen Hopkins. My review for this book will be published this upcoming Monday, so keep an eye out if you’d like to read my thoughts on that story. Triangles was my ‘adult tome’ for the readathon. After that, I couldn’t help but pick up the sort of companion novel, Tilt, that focuses on the same story but from the young adult perspective. This wasn’t on my TBR list for this challenge but it’s over 500 pages, so I’m counting it! I’m currently reading The Diviners by Libba Bray but did not finish it in time for it to count for this challenge. So that’s why I said three and a half books.

Antonia

I definitely didn’t do as well as I was hoping to for this challenge. I just started a new full-time shift at work and was there eight days in a row without a break. To top it off, the new shift is 1pm-10pm which is my normal reading time and I had some trouble trying to get into a book first thing in the morning. I managed to finish Inkheart by Cornelia Funke (review here) which fit “tome that’s part of a series” but barely started the second book, Inkspell. I read a couple smaller books in between so I’d still be able to post reviews which you can view here: Institute of Magic and Crime of Magic, both by Linsey Hall.

How did everyone else do with their Tome Topple TBR lists?

Tome Topple Challenge – Update

Hi, bookworms!I thought an update would be great now that we’ve made it through week one of the Tome Topple Readathon Challenge! Just here for a check in to let you guys know where we’re at with our goals and TBR lists and ask how everyone else is doing so far in this readathon challenge. Without further ado!

7516844656_IMG_2084

Amanda- So far I’ve completed one full book for this challenge. It’s one that I’ve been putting off because it’s part of a series but the last book hasn’t been released yet and I don’t want to wait a whole year to know what happens next! Stormcaster by Cinda Williams Chima is the third book in the Shattered Realms series. Here are links for my reviews of the first book, Flamecasterthe second book, Shadowcasterand the review I just posted today for the third book, StormcasterNext, I’ve started Triangles by Ellen Hopkins and I will hopefully be done with it by the end of this weekend. But I might not be because I’m visiting some family this week and I’m not sure if I will have as much time as I want to read. This book fulfills the ‘adult novel’ challenge for this readathon. I’ll be sure to post the review once I’ve finished it.I’ve also been listening to some audiobooks (I’m not sure what the ruling is on audiobooks for Tome Topple) that are over 500 pages in their paper copies. So I’m going to count it. American Gods by Neil Gaiman so far is bizarre and weird but I just can’t stop listening. So far, I’m doing better than I thought I was going to with everything else I have going on this week. I’m hoping to keep that progress where it’s at and keep moving forward page by page!

Antonia- I just finished Inkheart by Cornelia Funke which fulfills the ‘part of a series’ category. You can read my review of it here. I’ve already started the second book in the series, Inkspell, though I, unfortunately, don’t have the third book yet. I’m working the next eight days straight so my reading will probably be pretty slow for a bit. I’m hoping to at least finish Inkspell though.

This is where we are both at so far for the Tome Topple Challenge. Who else is participating in this readathon? Where are you at with the TBR list you had planned?

Tome Topple Challenge – TBR

tome topple

Hey, bookworms! We discovered the Tome Topple Readathon at the perfect time! Tome Topple round six starts on Friday, June 29th, 2018 (and ends July 12th). If you’re not familiar with the Tome Topple Challenge you can watch the video with a detailed explaination from the challenges creator Samantha on her YouTube channel, Thoughts on Tomes, or read my brief description below.

How Tome Topple Works: We’re going to try to topple some of the tomes that have been hanging out on our TBR lists. Tome meaning any books that are over 500 pages. Books that may be sitting on our TBRs. This is our chance to knock out some of those big books that we haven’t gotten around to reading yet.

Read more than one tome

Amanda- I just went on a library adventure and got four new books. Three of these books are over five hundred pages and are also part of a series. I’m not going to aim too high, but I would like to read at least the first book in the series. The Diviners by Libba Bray is the first book in the uncompleted series of four books (there’s no release date on the fourth book). It sounds really interesting, so I’m excited to read it.

Antonia- I’ve been meaning to read the Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke for forever. This challenge is the perfect time to finally get into them.

Read a tome that’s part of a series

Amanda- I’m probably going to finally read the third book in the Shattered Realms series that was released recently by Cinda Williams Chima. I’ve read and reviewed the first two books, Flamecaster and Shadowcaster, but then I got distracted by other books and I haven’t managed to make time to read the third book yet. So hopefully Tome Topple can help with that.

Antonia- The Inkheart series counts for this but if I manage to get through both of those (I don’t have the third book in the series yet), I’m planning on reading The Shattered Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima.

Read an adult novel

Amanda- Triangles by Ellen Hopkins is a book that I received in the first of two hauls from Book Outlet during the sale they had a few weeks ago. This readathon challenge is the perfect excuse to read this new book instead of another that’s been on my list for longer.

Antonia- I’ll be skipping this category because none of my adult books right now are long enough for the challenge.

triangles

These are the categories that we will be trying to cover for this book challenge! Are you going to try to topple some tomes for this challenge? If so, what’s your TBR?

Thanks for reading!
