Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Bookmarks

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week we talk about our top ten with a different topic provided by Jana. This week’s topic is top ten – Favorite Bookmarks

Pictures with sentimental value. I often use pictures as bookmarks because they make me smile.

Bookmarks by Books in the Skye I love the bookmarks I’ve bought from her!

Fandom bookmarks. Some of my favorite bookmarks are ones that match the book I’m reading. I have some from my favorite books that I use the most often.

Dust jackets. I’m sure I’m not the only one that uses the flaps of the dust jacket to mark my page when I don’t have anything better with me.

Sticky tabs. I often use my sticky tabs as bookmarks because they’re always close by my current read anyway.

This is all I have for you all this week. Let me know what you’re favorite bookmarks are in the comments!

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Comfort Zone

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week we talk about our top ten with a different topic provided by Jana. This week’s topic is top ten – Books I Enjoyed That Are Outside of My Comfort Zone (i.e., a genre you don’t typically read or subject matter you’re not usually drawn to). This is a tough one for me because I read a huge variety of books and I wouldn’t say that I have a ‘comfort zone.’

Science Fiction Graphic Novel

The Library Book by Susan Orlean
Non-Fiction

Kaijumax Season One: Terror and Respect by Zander Cannon

Non-Fiction

Bloom by Kevin Panetta & Savanah Ganucheau
Contemporary Graphic Novel

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
Science Fiction

The Recovering:  Intoxication and  its Aftermath by Leslie Jamison
Non-Fiction/Memoir

Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline
Historical Fiction

Yes Please by Amy Poehler
Non-Fiction/Memoir

These are the books I came up with for books that I enjoyed that were outside of my comfort zone. I’ve recently started reading graphic novels, so the ones I’ve enjoyed made this list because they’re still new for me. I also have a fair bit of non-fiction because it’s not something I usually read. Most on this list I only read because of book club. What books made your Top Ten Tuesday list this week? Let me know in the comments!

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Cover Redesigns

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week we talk about our top ten with a different topic provided by Jana. This week’s topic is top ten – Cover redesigns I loved/hated

img_6238

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
I hate covers with people on them (usually) so I totally loved the redesign.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
I adored the original covers for this series, but I also really adore the new covers.

Breathing Underwater by Alex Flinn
I have the original cover of this one, with the faces. So I much prefer the new one.

Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins
While I didn’t hate the original, it was a little juvenile. I completely love the new one with the illustrated characters.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Another cover with faces, the new one isn’t as nostalgic as the old but I still like it better.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
I don’t know why on earth they did this to Zentner’s wonderful book. The new cover is literally just a quote and I hate it.

Jane Unlimited by Kristin Cashore
I love the purple reflective cover, and I do like the redesign. I think the new cover reflects the story a bit better but I still prefer the original.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
WHY DID THEY DO THIS TO THIS POOR BOOK.

Flamecaster by Cinda Williams Chima
I like the original and the redesign. I think the original was a bit too similar to the covers of its sister series, so I understand the change.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
The original cover was nothing to write home about, but the redesign is everything I never knew I needed in a book cover.

Tell me about your favorite or least favorite book cover redesigns in the comments below!

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Unpopular Opinions

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week we talk about our top ten with a different topic provided by Jana. This week’s topic is top ten – Unpopular Bookish Opinions

img_6238

One

I love dog-earring pages. Fight me.

Two

I also have no issues with writing/highlighting in your books.

Three

I liked Harry Potter and The Cursed Child. I thought it was fun and enjoyable.

Four

I hate Deckled Edges. I think they look bad and they make it unnecessarily difficult to turn the page.

Five

Some movie adaptations are better than their  books (I’m looking  at you Dumplin’)

Six

Rainbow Bookshelves seriously stress me out. I love how they look but if I think about it too long it makes me anxious.

Seven

I didn’t love The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I prefer The Mortal Instruments.

Eight

AUDIOBOOKS ARE A VALID FORM OF READING. I say I’m reading X book even if I’m listening to the audiobook.

Nine

I don’t like the horror genre and I will never willingly pick one up. I also don’t totally understand why people enjoy reading things that make them scared. (You do you, but I don’t enjoy being scared. No horror anything for me, books, movies, podcasts.)

Ten

I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a huge physical TBR. Many bookdragons are collectors and enjoy collecting books that everyone loves and talks about.

What are your unpopular opinions? Comment and let me know!

“He would rather die a legend than end his life in anonymity.”

“Anger is a gift. Remember that.” She stood. “You gotta grasp onto it, hold it tight and use it as ammunition. You use that anger to get things done instead of just stewing in it.”
Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro

“Actions and inactions have consequences. If we did not accept responsibility or blame for them, then we’d be at risk of repeating those actions.”
If There’s No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“Grief is weird. It seems to come in these waves out of nowhere One minute I’m standing in the ocean, fine. The next minute I’m drowning.”
Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

“Most of us can hide our greatest hurts and longings. It’s how we survive each day. We pretend the pain isn’t there, that we are made of scars instead of wounds.”
King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

“The choices we face may not be the choices we want, but they are choices nonetheless.”
A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

Red Sister by Mark Lawrence.

These are some quotes that have really stood out to me so far from the books I have read so far in 2019. I thought I’d do quotes only from this year instead of recycling my list from the last time I did this prompt. (Check it out here.)

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Best of 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week we’re given a new prompt for a top ten list of all things bookish. This week is top ten best books I’ve read in 2018 (so far). I’m excited about this one because I have a post on other social media where I post the best book I read each month. I’m obviously only through June so here I can add a few more! Here’s my list of the ten best books I’ve read so far this year.

top t t

1. Air Awakens by Elise Kova – I found this as a boxed set on my Kindle so it was like reading one giant book even though it was five books. This series made me laugh and cry and It’s only been a few months since I read it and I already want to read it again.
2. Moon Chosen & Sun Warrior by P.C. Cast – It honestly took me forever to actually read these but they were AMAZING and I can’t wait until Windrider comes out in October.
3. Scythe & Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman – This was an incredibly creative story. I’m excited to see where the third book takes these characters.
4. Renegades by Marissa Meyer – Superheros, duh!
5. The Paper Magician series by Charlie N. Holmberg – I loved all of these books, even the fourth that has different characters in the same word. The world is so interesting and well thought out and just incredible.
6. The Bookseller by Cynthia Swanson – I found this book in the ‘popular books’ section of my Kindle Unlimited subscription and thought it sounded interesting. Boy was it. The plot in this story was so confusing and funny and heart wrenching all at the same time somehow.
7. A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas – The newest book (novella) in my favorite series, so yeah, it obviously makes this list.
8. The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline – It was such an emotional and just all around powerful story. I didn’t think I was going to like this book nearly as much as I did.
9. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon – I was so surprised by this book. I thought this was one that was overly hyped and it wasn’t really ever on my TBR list. But I found it at the library and said why not. I’m glad I gave it a chance because this story blew me away.
10. Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts – My first audiobook ever. I’ve been super excited for this book to be released because Nora is an auto-buy author for me. I honestly hadn’t even read the synopsis. So when I started listening and the mall shooting happened, I balled my eyes out for the first like half an hour that I was listening.

These are the top ten books that are my favorites for the year so far. I chose to only list books that I read for the first time this year, otherwise, my favorite series would overtake this list. What books are your favorites for 2018 so far?

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.
