Top Ten Tuesday, Beach Reads

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, is Beach Reads Week. This is a favorite of mine because I’m a total beach bum. And my favorite beach activity is reading while laying in the beautiful sunlight. So, this week’s topic has a few options and I’m going to try to touch on all of them; top ten great beach reads, top ten book I plan to read on the beach, top ten not typical beach reads, or top ten authors to read on the beach.

1 )Janet Evanovich –  She’s one of my favorite authors. Her books are all hilarious. They’re the perfect beach reads that will have people staring at your hysterical laughter.

2) The Belgariad & The Malloreon by David Eddings – This was a series that I recently finished. While it’s definitely not a typical beach read, they’re certainly books you can spend a few hours getting totally lost in.

3) The Last Vampire Series by Christopher Pike – If I’m being honest, I’m a sucker for a good vampire series and this definitely was. Another that’s not a typical beach read but the story will take you far away from the beach.

4) Nora Roberts – Anything by Nora is always good. Her romance novels are great beach reads that have me cracking up like a crazy person.

5) The  Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer – I’m stealing one from Antonia’s TTT. This was an amazing series, and while it’s not a typical beach read I would read it at the beach anyway.

6) Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima – I’ve read this series once before, and the next series just came out, so this is a series I’m planning to read at the beach this summer.

7) Talon Series by Julie Kagawa – This is a series filled with action and adventure. The next book in the series just came out, so I definitely plan on reading this book at the beach very soon.

8) The 5^th Wave Series – The third and final book just came out, The Final Star. I’m going to be reading this at the beach as soon as possible.

9) Newsoul Series by Jodi Meadows – I read this series a few years ago and its really stuck with me. Ill be trying to read it again this summer on the beach.

10) John Green – Any of the books he has written are good beach reads. While some of them might make you bawl your eyes out in public, they’re all fantastic books.

These are my top ten this week. I love to read on the beach so this one was very fun for me.

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Winter TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week we have a different topic that we write our top ten about. This weeks topic is top ten books on my winter to be read list. I haven’t quite thought about what I need to read that I haven’t yet. So, this list might be all over the place. Here’s what I came up with.

1)Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich– I’m totally obsessed with this series. They don’t have to be read in any specific order, and they’re all freaking hilarious.

2)Delirium by Lauren Oliver– I’ve heard a lot of really good things about this series. Its been on my TBR list for a while, but I’ve been slacking on my library visits.

3)The Book Thief by Markus Zusak– This is another that’s been on my list for a while because there’s a movie of it coming out. Every time I go to the book store I always pick it up, read the back, then put it back down. So I’m thinking it’ll be another I get from the library.

4)The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins– I haven’t read this trilogy in too long. I’d really enjoy reading them again. So, maybe if I actually put it on a list I’ll get to it eventually.

5)The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey– This book looks really interesting. I read another by Rick Yancey and loved it. So I figure this could also be a great book.

6)Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley– I found this book while looking through the list of Printz awards. It sounds like it has potential to be seriously good. Along with the fact that it won two awards, so there’s probably a reason for that.

7)Unstrung by Neal Shusterman– I need to have this. The first three were amazing. I know the fourth will be just as wonderful.

8)The Sum of All Kisses by Julia Quinn– This just came out, and I adore Julia Quinn’s books. So it’s a must.

9)The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle– I just adore Lauren Myracle. This also sounds really cute.

10)Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, &Lauren Myracle– I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book. Also, John Green.

These are the books that I’ll hopefully get to spend my winter reading. What’s on your list for this winter?

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Sequels

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where every week we give our top ten on a specific topic. This weeks topic is Top Ten Sequels I Can’t Wait To Get My Hands On. I’m a little excited for this one because there’s so many series that I read that I just can’t wait for the next book.

1)Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout– This is the final book of the Lux Series. I fell in love with this series within the first couple of pages of Obsidian. This is a series I think anyone and everyone should read. Opposition is expected to come out August 5, 2014

2)The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead– Ah! I just want this book to come out already! Number four of the Bloodlines series is expected to come out November 19th, 2013 which is very soon. I just don’t want to wait anymore!

3)Age of X Series by Richelle Mead– The second book in the Age of X seems like it doesn’t exist. There’s been no title released, or date of expected publication. The first, Gameboard of the Gods, came out this year. So, there’s probably a while to wait for the second.

4)City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare– What I believe is the final book of The Mortal Instrument Series is expected to come out in May of 2014. I can’t wait for this book. Mostly to see how the series will close and where everyone is going to end up. If you haven’t read any of The Mortal Instruments Series you should give it a try.

5)Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare– This is the first book in a series of three. It’s expected to be published in 2015, but there isn’t anything more specific than that. The trilogy is supposed to be kind of a companion to The Mortal Instruments. The series is called The Dark Artifices. I’m excited to read them and see how things turn out.

6)Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich– I’m obsessed with the Stephanie Plum series. I’ve read every single one of them. Most more than once. I’m excited for the twentieth book to come out because I know it’ll be good. It’s release date is posted as November 19th, 2013.

7)Unsouled by Neil Shusterman– Unsouled is the third and final book of the Unwind Trilogy. This book is actually currently out, I just can’t afford it yet. I’m excited to read it though, when that does eventually happen.

8)Vampire Most Wanted by Lynsay Sands– Expected to come out February 18, 2014 the twentieth book in the Argeneau Series will be just as good as the nineteen before it. This series doesn’t need to be read in order. Just pick one up and let it take you on the ride that is the Argeneau’s.

9)Revealed by Kristin and P.C. Cast– This is another book that’s already out that I’m too poor to afford. I’m happy for this series to finally be over. I think it was dragged on a little too long. But I’m excited to see where it’s left off.

10)The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey– The sequel to The 5th Wave is expected to come out in May of 2014. I’m especially pumped about this book coming out because I was really attached to The 5th Wave. It was an amazing book, and I’m hoping the second will be just as amazing.

Summary:

Review:
The only reason I read The 5th Wave was because John Green recommended it. This is not my usual type of book that i’d read. It turned out to be a really good book. I had a hard time putting it down. The 5th Wave had a very interesting story line. It was exciting, and suspenseful. I couldn’t tell what was going to happen next. I ended up really enjoying this book. It had a little bit of everything. It had the action and the fighting, that boys like. It had the romantic angle, for the girls. It had a strong female lead for readers who like that. I also really enjoyed all the twists and turns and the intertwining connections between all the characters. There are so many good things about this book.
The characters were fantastic as well. The female lead, Cassie, spends most of the book on a mission to find and rescue her younger brother. She’s very determined and follows through with her plans, falling in love and meeting a friend on the way. Cassie’s smart, she doesn’t go into anything without thinking it through. She’s also very caring. She is rescued and put into a very interesting situation. She absolutely loves Evan. And I kind of adore that about her. She takes risks for what she’s passionate about. Cassie is really just a great girl.
The male lead character, Ben Parish, goes through a lot when the Others came around. He ended up being drafted into the makeshift army. Ben is pretty much brainwashed by the army. He eventually straightens his head out, but he has to rescue his team member nugget before he can escape. Ben is a pretty good guy. He’s determined and focused. Because of this he succeeds in his mission.
Next is Evan Walker, he’s a hard guy to talk about without giving too much away. Evan really means well. He has good intentions. He never wanted this. Then he falls in love with Cassie. His whole life becomes about protecting her in all the dangerous situations she finds. Evan is strong and capable. He tries to be good and I think that’s what matters.
Last there’s Sammy, Cassie’s little brother. Sammy is a very brave little boy. He mostly just goes with the flow. But he never loses hope that Cassie’s going to come for him. He believes in his sister. Sammy meets a lot of people, some that help him in his future. Sammy is a very smart, very lucky boy.
As a whole, I really liked this book. It sucked me in. The 5th Wave is a good book to get lost in. If anyone else has read it let me know what you thought!

What are you currently reading?

Amanda: I’m currently about to start reading Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. The newest book in the series recently came out so I’m re-reading the first two before I start on the third.

Antonia: I’m reading Once Upon a Tower by Eloisa James.

What did you recently finish reading?

Amanda: I just finished Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, so expect a review on that soon.

Antonia: I recently read Towering by Alex Flinn. She’s one of my favorites and I just had to buy Towering when it came out.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Amanda: Depending on how into Clockwork Prince I get I’ll read Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare next. But I might let myself get distracted with either The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey or The Great Escape by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

Antonia: I’ll probably read Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts, another new book I’ve picked up.
