Amanda’s Adult SFF Backlist Book Reading Challenge TBR

Hello, lovelies! I’m here today to share with you a wonderful and fun reading challenge that my friend Ari over at Bookish Valhalla is hosting (her announcement post is linked for anyone that wants to read it). For the last few months, I’ve really been trying to focus on moving away from YA fantasy and science fiction and exploring more adult SFF stories. I just haven’t been connecting with YA stories as much and I’ve really loved the adult SFF that I have read recently.

So! To say that I was excited when Ari shared this reading challenge is an understatement. This challenge focuses on reading backlist adult books that are fantasy and science fiction. Each month has a loose theme, so I’ve picked some books that I think will work for each month. I’m going to share all the options that I have on my TBR for each of these because I’m not sure which book I’ll end up reading for the months that have more than one option to choose from. Also, this TBR will only be the books that I own, I may end up reading books I don’t own for this challenge but as of now my goal is to focus on the adult SFF series that I already own.

Amanda’s Tome Topple TBR

Hi, lovelies! I’ve just seen the announcement for Sam’s latest round of Tome Topple (watch the announcement video here.) You can find all of the hosts of the readathon here: Sam from Thoughts on Tomes, Adri from Perpetual Page, Sam 2 from Will Read For Booze, Gaia from @lalettricesegreta on Instagram, Tori from Tori Morrow, Jocelyn from Yogi With A Book. I love this readathon because it’s a great motivator for me to finally pick up some of the bigger books that I have on my TBR. The rules for this readathon are simple: read books that are 500 pages or longer. There is a fun bingo board for this round and I will list the prompts below. This round of Tome Topple will run from March 15th-28th.

Tome that’s been on my TBR the longest
The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
This has been on my TBR for so long and I’ve put it on several TBR’s for previous Tome Topple rounds. I honestly probably won’t get to this one, but I like to have options when I make TBR’s like this.

An audiobook tome
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
I’ve been rereading this series via audiobook so that I can read the newest release (Winterkeep), so this is the perfect choice for this prompt.

Tome with the most pages
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
Technically, the next book in this series is the tome with the most pages that’s on my TBR. But obviously I have to finish this one first. This one will count for several prompts too since I will probably continue the audiobook that I started the last round of Tome Topple.

I’ve been working my way through a reread of all the books in the Grishaverse so that it’s all fresh in my mind for both the Netflix adaptation release in April and the publication of the second book in the Nikolai duology, which is coming in the end of March.

I don’t know that I’ll get to this one, but I’ve heard incredible things about this book so I’m excited to read it.

Historical fiction/fantasy? I read some historical fiction/fantasy, but it’s definitely one of the genres I read the least from.

Tome from a series I haven’t read in a while
Gilded Serpent by Danielle L. Jensen
This is an eARC that’s on my TBR and the only ARC I have that’s more than 500 pages. I haven’t read this series since the second book was released, so I’m excited to get back into this world.

Tome that I started in a previous Tome Topple round
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
I started this in the last Tome Topple. I’m trying really hard to finished what’s published in this series this year, but sometimes these books are just so slow. I’ve heard things pick up again toward the end of this book.

Amanda’s O.W.L.’s Readathon TBR List

Hey, lovelies! I’ve been trying to chill out with the readathons this year and I think I’ve done pretty well. I’ve participated (low key without posting anything) in a few but nothing too crazy. I’m feeling like I’m heading into a reading slump so I thought the OWLs would be a good way to keep me motivated. If you’re interested here’s the link to G’s announcement video which is where you can find all the details and links.

For the 2020 OWLs, I’ve decided to go with the career of “Trader or Magical Tomes” because doesn’t that just sound wicked cool? The description for this career that G has created literally starts off “Have books always been your one true love?” Like yes, sign me the hell up. I have to pass four OWLs to succeed in this readathon. I’ll explain which four and what their prompts are below, as well as what books I’ll be reading for each subject.

End of Year-A-Thon: Round Two!

Hello, lovelies! The ever wonderful Vicky @ What Vicky Read and I are back again this year to host one of the final readathons of the year, End of Year-A-Thon! Last year, we came up with this readathon as that last-ditch attempt to reach our GoodReads goals, to read those last few books we swore we’d read in 2019, and to have fun reading with friends in the final few days of the year.

Somehow my TBR has gotten even longer than it was this time last year, despite reading over 200 books so far in 2019. And I’m sure I’m not alone in this. We all struggle from the ever-growing TBR lists. This readathon is here to help!

Remember all those books we talked about in January that we definitely planned to read in 2019? Well, if you’re like me, you’ve only read a handful of those. We have come up with a few changes to the prompts we created last year, that will hopefully assist in finishing off those last few books you’ve been dying to read before the end of the year.

There are six prompts, which I know seems like a lot, but feel free to use one book for more than one prompt. Combine however you see fit or don’t use the prompts at all, just come and read with us from December 26th until December 31st.

Prompts:

Read a 2019 release

Read a book with a red cover

Read a book from a series you haven’t finished

Read a book under 300 pages

Read a book released before 2019

Read a diverse book

Personally, I will be selecting one book for each prompt because I’m a lady that needs options to choose from when doing readathons. I’ve already started thinking about what books I will be including in my TBR  for this. My TBR post will be coming in early December, so keep an eye out for that!

Amanda’s Mythathon TBR

Hi, lovelies! Yes, I am here with another TBR post today. There are just so many good readathons happening this month! So this particular readathon is called Myth-A-Thon and it’s hosted by the always wonderful Jesse from Bowties & Books. This is a month-long readathon with four different teams. Each captain has been cast as a mythic God and associated with the four elements. I’ve chosen to be on Team Hades – Fire because I am a Leo and it is Leo season and also I love Hades a lot. Amanda’s Contemporary-A-Thon TBR List

Fierce Female Reads February​

Hi, lovelies! I am here today to share some fierce female February news. This post is in collaboration with Ashley @ Falling Down the Book Hole. This wonderful blogger has created Fierce Female Reads February. This month is all about the female power. There are many of us sharing different posts about different topics. We have quite a bit going on this month, so I’ll take it one step at a time!

First, I will be sharing a few of my favorite fierce females with you later this week. So keep an eye out for that to read about all my favorite bookish female characters!

End of Yearathon – Wrap Up

Happy New Year lovelies! The time has come to close out the last readathon of the year! For those of you that don’t know, I teamed up with Vicky @ What Vicky Read to bring you End of Yearathon (click here to read the announcement post). We thought this would be the perfect readathon for anyone that needed some motivation to read a few more books to meet their personal goals, GoodReads goals, or just to read those books that you didn’t manage to pick up yet. End of Yearathon – TBR List

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! Who else is as ready for Christmas as I am? As it’s my first Christmas with my daughter, it’s going to be a special one for sure. After Christmas, I am co-hosting a read-a-thon with Vicky from the 26th of December to the 1st of January. We hope to help ourselves and others get those final books read in 2018. Whether you need to catch up to your GoodReads goal, or if you just have books you want to read before the year is over, this is the read-a-thon for you!

Blogmas Day Nineteen (Part Two) – Twenty Four Hour Readathon (TBR)!

Hello book friends and happy wednesday! How is everyones week going so far? Six more days until Christmas! Is anyone else as excited as I am? Well, lets get to the point of this post. I have recently bought a few Christmas and holiday themed books that I wanted to read this month. So when Jess @ Kisses from Jess asked if anyone was interested in doing a 24 hour read-a-thon with her, I jumped at the invite! I had wanted to do a 24 hour reading challenge at some point this month anyway, so I’m excited to be able to do it with a friend! Head to her blog and see what she’s going to be reading tomorrow!

My plan is to start reading at midnight EST going into Thursday the 20th and do my best to read all day long, with a few breaks of course, until midnight EST going into Friday. The TBR list I am about to share with you is, as usual, way more than I am likely to read in one day. But I tend to set high goals to motivate myself. I’m going to list them in order of how I think I will read them tomorrow, but I’m a mood reader, so it’s likely to change.

The Christmasy Reads

The Chaos of Standing Still by Jessica Brody 

After hearing Hailey in Bookland rant and rave about how much she liked this book, I knew I had to get it when I saw it on Book Outlet. I think I am the most excited to read this one, so I will likely start the read-a-thon off with this one.

Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe by Melissa De La Cruz

I will probably pick this one up next because it’s a familiar story that I have a feeling I will fly through. So this one I think will be a comforting read with a bit of holiday festivity.

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

This is a book that has bee ALL OVER the bookish community this month. It’s a retelling of the classic Christmas story, A Christmas Carol, which is a well know and well loved story. So I’m intrigued for this retelling.

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson 

I am currently doing a buddy read with a few lovely ladies, Alana, Rae, & BooksintheSkye, for this book. We are reading about 100 pages each day. So I will be making time at some point tomorrow to read our planned pages for Skyward.

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare 

This is what I’m currently listening to on audiobook. So I may listen to a bit of it if I find myself doing something where I can’t read but may be able to listen to audio.

People Kill People by Ellen Hopkins

Becasue Hopkins writes her books in prose, I can usually read them pretty quickly. People Kill People was one of my highly anticipated releases for 2018 and I’m really not sure why I haven’t picked it up yet.

Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard OR The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon

These are both books I’d like to get to before the end of 2018 because I’m trying to finish all the series that I’m in the middle of. So if I manage to read everthing above on this list, I will pick one or the other depending on how I’m feeling when the time comes.

Now that I’ve make it through this ridiculously long list, I will say that I only really hope to finish the first three books. My goal is to read all the holiday themed books and the 100 pages of Skyward for my buddy read. Anything else that gets read will just be awesome!
