Blogmas Day Twenty-Six: Amanda’s End of Yearathon TBR

Hello, lovelies! It’s that time of year again, the always wonderful Vicky (from What Vicky Read) and I are back to host another end-of-the-year, last-minute readathon. Like all the previous years, the only thing we care about for this readathon is that you read with us to close out the year! But, for those of you like me, we have five prompts that we change a smidge each year. This year’s prompts are shared below. I’m also sharing the book I think I’ll read for this, but I’ve been mood reading so I might not follow them this year.

You can follow the readathon’s Twitter which is run by Vicky.
You can follow Amanda’s Bookstagram, which is where I’ll be posting about this.

read a 2022 release
One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig
This was sold to me as a comp fir For the Wolf, which we all know is my favorite. I have high hopes for this book and it’s the perfect time of year to read it.

read a book with an lgbtqia+ character
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson
I know two things about this book: something about Dracula and it’s queer.

read a book in a series
The Name of All Things by Jenn Lyons
I’m more than excited to continue this series.

read a book under 200 pages
Of Women and Salt by Gabriela Garcia
This is cheating a smidge because it’s 207 pages, but it’s the shortest book on my physical tbr. Also, I make the rules and I say it’s allowed.

read a book with snow on the cover
Beartown by Fredrik Backman
Who doesn’t love an emotionally devastating book for the holidays? I’m rereading this because I’ve finally gotten my hands on a hardcover copy and I want to tab it. Also, the new book in the series is out now and I’d like to reread book two before reading the new release.

Are you participating? If yes, share your tbr with me! If no, what books are you reading to close out the year?

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

This readathon starts the day after Christmas, the 26th, and will run right up until 11:59pm on the 31st. We have some totally optional prompts if you like to have prompts to create a TBR list. That’s what I’m going to be sharing with you all today. I like to have prompts to pick options from my unread books, so let’s get into the books I’ve picked to go with our five prompts.

A book that was published in 2021

Float Plan by Trish Doller

A book from a series you’ve already started, but haven’t finished

Tarnished Empire by Danielle L. Jensen

Amanda’s Magical Readathon: Orilium – The Novice Path TBR

Hi, lovelies! G has returned to us with a brand new version of The Magical Readathon! I’m honestly beyond excited about this because I loved the Magical Readathon in the past years when I did it. But with the author of the series that inspired the readathon being hugely transphobic, G has recreated this readathon with a brand new world of her own creation. I’m in awe of the amount of time and effort that it must have taken to think up and plan and organize everything for this. You can check out G’s announcement video with all of the details and stuff you need to know here!

Above is the ‘Novice Path’ which is the path I must take if I want to make it to Orilium and attend the academy there. To successfully venture on the Novice Path, I must complete two prompts, but I’m going to go for all seven. Each prompt must have their own book. So, here are the books I’m planning to read to complete the Novice Path and make it to Orilium.

The Novice Path Entrance: read a book with a map

The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Ashthorn Tree: a book that keeps tempting you (or the book on top of your TBR)

Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto

The Mist of Solitude: read a standalone

The Twin Paradox by Charles Wachter

Ruin of the Skye: read a book featuring ghosts/haunted house, or other supernatural elements

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

Obsidian Falls: read a thriller or mystery book

Holdout by Jeffery Kluger

Tower of Rumination: read a five star prediction

Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Orilium Academy Arc: a book with a school setting

How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao

There are also a few prompts that have to so with creating my character (which I plan to use in future rounds of this readathon) so, I am planning to attempt these prompts as well this month.

Background

Wildling: read a book largely set in a forest/outside

The Lovely and the Lost by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Province

Irtheria: read a book that features fae or elven characters

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Heritage

Earthling: read a book with elemental magic or an element work in the book/series title (air, fire, earth, or water)

The Nature of Witches by Rachel Griffin

So, these are all of the prompts that I am hoping to complete this month (if you read my TBR jar post, you may have noticed that I definitely borrowed from that list too. What are you reading this September?

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Amanda’s Tome Topple TBR

Hi, lovelies! I’ve just seen the announcement for Sam’s latest round of Tome Topple (watch the announcement video here.) You can find all of the hosts of the readathon here: Sam from Thoughts on Tomes, Adri from Perpetual Page, Sam 2 from Will Read For Booze, Gaia from @lalettricesegreta on Instagram, Tori from Tori Morrow, Jocelyn from Yogi With A Book. I love this readathon because it’s a great motivator for me to finally pick up some of the bigger books that I have on my TBR. The rules for this readathon are simple: read books that are 500 pages or longer. There is a fun bingo board for this round and I will list the prompts below. This round of Tome Topple will run from March 15th-28th.

Tome that’s been on my TBR the longest
The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
This has been on my TBR for so long and I’ve put it on several TBR’s for previous Tome Topple rounds. I honestly probably won’t get to this one, but I like to have options when I make TBR’s like this.

An audiobook tome
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
I’ve been rereading this series via audiobook so that I can read the newest release (Winterkeep), so this is the perfect choice for this prompt.

Tome with the most pages
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
Technically, the next book in this series is the tome with the most pages that’s on my TBR. But obviously I have to finish this one first. This one will count for several prompts too since I will probably continue the audiobook that I started the last round of Tome Topple.

Seasonally colored cover
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
Yellow is a springtime color right? I’m going with it.

Read one tome
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
I’ve been working my way through a reread of all the books in the Grishaverse so that it’s all fresh in my mind for both the Netflix adaptation release in April and the publication of the second book in the Nikolai duology, which is coming in the end of March.

Tome by a BIPOC author
The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winters
I don’t know that I’ll get to this one, but I’ve heard incredible things about this book so I’m excited to read it.

Tome in a genre I don’t usually read
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
Historical fiction/fantasy? I read some historical fiction/fantasy, but it’s definitely one of the genres I read the least from.

Tome from a series I haven’t read in a while
Gilded Serpent by Danielle L. Jensen
This is an eARC that’s on my TBR and the only ARC I have that’s more than 500 pages. I haven’t read this series since the second book was released, so I’m excited to get back into this world.

Tome that I started in a previous Tome Topple round
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
I started this in the last Tome Topple. I’m trying really hard to finished what’s published in this series this year, but sometimes these books are just so slow. I’ve heard things pick up again toward the end of this book.

Are you going to participate in this round of Tome Topple? What’s on your TBR? If not, what books over 500 pages are you hoping to read soon?

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Amanda’s Pop Culture ReadAThon TBR

Hello, lovelies! Today I’m here with another TBR list, is anyone surprised? Well, this one is a fun one and I have a huge list because there are a ton of prompts. There are four bingo boards to choose from and I decided to choose the team for Family Affair. I love all the movies on this list and I loved the prompts with them too. If you’re interested in more details about the readathon the whole information thread is here. I’m going to leave the bingo board I’m hoping to complete here in my post, but there are three others to choose from.

Amanda’s Olympic Games TBR

Hiii, lovelies! I’m back with another TBR post. I’ve been trying not to do so many readathons this year because I feel like it stressed me out a bit too much last year. I’ve done some low key without posting anything about it (aside from on Twitter). But this one sounds like too much fun and I have to participate. Here is the link to their twitter which has all the specifics for this readathon. It’s taking place for the entire month of June. I’ve taken the quiz from Uncle Rick’s website and I am a child of Hades (is anyone surprised by this? Because I’m not.) So, there are a few fun prompts and I’ll be listing them with what I  intend to read below (but if you’ve been here before you know I’ll probably read a completely different list of books.) Let’s get into the challenges.

Hades Challenges:

The Ghost King: Read a book featuring the undead.

This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers

Bring a book back from the dead by reading something you have already read before.

The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman

The Underworld is a dark and dreary place. Read a book with a dark cover.

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Death comes randomly and without warning. Choose a book from your TBR at random.

The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 4: Rising Action by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, & Matt Wilson

Hermes is the only Olympian free to visit the Underworld. Complete a prompt that honors Hermes. [Caduceus: Read a book with a snake on the cover.]

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

Optional Advanced Challenges:

Sword & Shield: A book featuring a character whom you would not get along with.

The Lovely War by Julie Berry

Monster Fighting: A book featuring magical creatures.

5 Worlds: The Sand Warrior by Mark Siegel, Alexis Siegel, Xanthe Bouma, Matt Rockefeller, & Boya Sun

I’m very excited about this list of books, so hopefully, I’ll manage to mostly stick to this TBR. Are you participating in this readathon? If so, who is your godly parent and what will you be reading?

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Amanda’s O.W.L.’s Readathon TBR List

Hey, lovelies! I’ve been trying to chill out with the readathons this year and I think I’ve done pretty well. I’ve participated (low key without posting anything) in a few but nothing too crazy. I’m feeling like I’m heading into a reading slump so I thought the OWLs would be a good way to keep me motivated. If you’re interested here’s the link to G’s announcement video which is where you can find all the details and links.

For the 2020 OWLs, I’ve decided to go with the career of “Trader or Magical Tomes” because doesn’t that just sound wicked cool? The description for this career that G has created literally starts off “Have books always been your one true love?” Like yes, sign me the hell up. I have to pass four OWLs to succeed in this readathon. I’ll explain which four and what their prompts are below, as well as what books I’ll be reading for each subject.

fullsizeoutput_2ab8

Ancient Runes – Heart Rune: heart on the cover or in the title

I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski

Charms – Lumos Maxima: white cover

Are You Listening? by Tillie Walden

History of Magic – Witch Hunts: a book featuring witches or wizards

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

Transfiguration – Animagus Lecture: book or series that includes shapeshifting

Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout

These are the books I’m (loosely) planning to read for the OWLs, but if you’ve been here before you know that I don’t usually stick to my TBR lists. We shall see how it goes this month since it is a smaller TBR. I might even try to manage some of the other prompts if I finish these ones.

What are you going to be reading in April? Let me know in the comments!

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.

Read the group book

Hi, lovelies! Yes, I am here with another TBR post today. There are just so many good readathons happening this month! So this particular readathon is called Myth-A-Thon and it’s hosted by the always wonderful Jesse from Bowties & Books. This is a month-long readathon with four different teams. Each captain has been cast as a mythic God and associated with the four elements. I’ve chosen to be on Team Hades – Fire because I am a Leo and it is Leo season and also I love Hades a lot. So this was the perfect team for me. There are a few challenges for this months reading so let’s get to it!

Hades also owns a chair of forgetfulness: Read a book you’ve been shelving for far too long

Magical Readathon – O.W.L. Exams TBR

Hi bookworms, Amanda here! I was recently scrolling through Twitter when I saw Books in the Skye share something about a readathon based on the N.E.W.T exams from the Harry Potter books. I did a little more digging and saw that I sadly missed out on the O.W.L exam readathon, hosted over on YouTube by Book Roast, that took place originally in April. I decided that I could either skip the O.W.L.s and just take whatever N.E.W.T.s I felt like doing or I could do the O.W.L. exams anyway. I have decided that I’m going to take the O.W.L. exams anyway. So I will start this challenge tomorrow, August 2nd, and I will try to complete as many exams as I can until the 29th.
