Amanda’s Favorite Springtime Book Covers

Hi, lovelies! I haven’t done a post about book covers in quite a while. I thought it would be fun for me to share some book covers that scream spring to me. I’m going to share some covers in two parts. The first part will be books that I’ve read (and they’re on this list because I recommend them!) and the second will be books I have not read yet, but want to. There are so many great covers out there and I really had fun finding some that reminded me of spring.

Books I’ve Read

I was not surprised to find quite a few romance novels that had covers that would work for this post. I really enjoyed all three of these. They were all really fun stories.

These fantasy covers feel a little obvious with all the flowers, but they’re just so stunning that I had to include them.

Full Flight and You’ve Reached Sam are both books that you’re going to need to have some tissues while you read. The Nature of Witches was a magical and emotional story. I just love the colors and nature elements of these covers.

Books on my TBR

I love book covers that have plants or creepy nature on them.

I love a good illustrated cover and these three are all stunning.

I don’t usually like faces on book covers but I actually love these. There’s something about the flowers that add to the mystery of the story inside with maybe a hint of magic.

Do you have a preference for book covers? Do you like illustrated covers or more realistic ones?

Antonia’s Top Ten Tuesday: Books With X on the Cover

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week’s topic is Books with [___] On the Cover (Pick a thing (a color, an item, a place, an animal, a scripty font, a sexy person, etc.) and share covers that have that thing on the cover.) I’ve decided to do books with stars on the cover.

What do you love to see on book covers?

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Books with Water on the Cover

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week we talk about our top ten with a different topic provided by Jana. This week’s topic is ten books with X on the cover. I’ve chosen to do book covers with water on them.

What did you pick for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday?

Blogtober Day Twenty-Two: Spooky Book Covers

Hello, lovelies! I was running out of blogtober ideas and then I realized I haven’t done a post (outside of a Top Ten Tuesday) about book covers in quite a while. So, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite spooky/creepy covers that I love. I’m a sucker for a good cover and there are definitely some that have drawn me to mystery or horror books when the summary probably wouldn’t have grabbed me.

The Arsonist and Spellbook of the Lost and Found were absolutely books I bought because of their covers. They were also books that I enjoyed very much when I read them.

Please just look at these stunning purple covers. I’d recommend all of these for spooky season based on the cover alone (but the stories inside are also good spooky season stories).

Creepy weather. Creepy teeth. Creepy animals. Seriously, what more could someone ask for from these covers? Nothing, they’re absolute perfection.

The Valley and the Flood cover is the only reason that I read this book. It’s weird and I just had to know more about the story inside. The Inheritance Games is such a good cover because there’s so much going on that you don’t know where to look (which is really telling of the story inside). Mexican Gothic is such a simple cover, but damn does it make a statement.

Who knew that flowers could be horrifying? Well, they only really are for Horrid. Those flower eyes will haunt me. The other flowers are totally pretty, but with the other elements of the covers, there is a mysteriousness about both These Vengeful Hearts and Whichwood.

There are some books that I haven’t read yet that I wanted to share their covers, too. For some of them, the covers are absolutely the reason that these books are on my radar in the first place.

For the Throne has a stunning cover, much like the first book in the series. I’m reading it because I loved the first book, not because of the cover. But it’s cover was just released and it’s so beautiful that I had to include it. The Last Laugh is also a sequel that I’ll be reading either way, but oh jeez that cover. Lakesedge is one that grabbed me from the synopsis and the cover wasn’t released until very recently. There’s just something that screams spooky and atmospheric about it.

I don’t usually like books with faces on the cover, but these are creepy as hell and I’m absolutely living for it.

The Forest of Stolen Girls has what looks like two girls drowning in flowers and that sounds absolutely horrifying. I’m honestly not sure what is going on with The River Has Teeth but I just borrowed a copy from the library and I’m about to find out. Where the Drowned Girls Go is part of the Wayward Children series which I love, but that random door in the ocean is mysterious as hell.

What are some of your favorite creepy and weird covers?

Amanda’s Barnes & Nobel Book Haul!

Hi, lovelies! I’m just stopping by this evening to share with you all the things I got this weekend at the Barnes & Nobel Book Haul Blowout! I have been looking forward to this all weekend! I think I picked up quite a few books that I’m really excited about. So, expect to see them in any of my TBR’s in the near future.

49N0APW3Tj6+X7C5gO99OA

I picked up a few that I was missing from the always wonderful Rick Riordan. I was very excited to see these on sale because I never see his books on sale!

The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan

The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan

I also grabbed a few that I’ve seen so many others talking about. I wanted to get them so I could understand why everyone is talking about them!

Furyborn Kingsbane by Claire Legrand

White Stag by Kara Barbieri

Girls With Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young

There were a few that I’ve seen before but I haven’t really heard anything about them aside from what they’re about.

Voices: The Final Hours of Joan of Arc by David Elliott

The Last Voyage of Poe Blythe by Ally Condie

Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody

And finally, I picked up two books by the same author that I’ve never heard of but the synopsis sounded pretty interesting for both of them.

H2O by Virginia Bergin

The XY by Virginia Bergin

The next book is the one full-price book I bought and I’m blaming entirely on Heathur from Aphrodite Reads because she does nothing but sing its praises. It’s going to be a buddy read for the upcoming round of ZodiacAThon.

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

The graphic novel was an impulse buy. I went over to the graphic novel section to look for the next volume of a series I started recently but instead, I found something I never knew I needed. I don’t play video games pretty much ever, but a friend of mine got me into Life is Strange and I’m so glad.

Life is Strange: Dust by Emma Vieceli, Claudia Leonardi, & Andrea Izzo

So, there you have it. These are all of the books I picked up today on my trip to Barnes and Nobel. I have to thank my dad because this haul was a belated birthday gift from him. I cannot wait to dive into these new books, but for now, they have found a new home on my TBR bookshelves.

Amanda’s Top Ten Tuesday – Cover Redesigns

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week we talk about our top ten with a different topic provided by Jana. This week’s topic is top ten – Cover redesigns I loved/hated

img_6238

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
I hate covers with people on them (usually) so I totally loved the redesign.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
I adored the original covers for this series, but I also really adore the new covers.

Breathing Underwater by Alex Flinn
I have the original cover of this one, with the faces. So I much prefer the new one.

Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins
While I didn’t hate the original, it was a little juvenile. I completely love the new one with the illustrated characters.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Another cover with faces, the new one isn’t as nostalgic as the old but I still like it better.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
I don’t know why on earth they did this to Zentner’s wonderful book. The new cover is literally just a quote and I hate it.

Jane Unlimited by Kristin Cashore
I love the purple reflective cover, and I do like the redesign. I think the new cover reflects the story a bit better but I still prefer the original.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
WHY DID THEY DO THIS TO THIS POOR BOOK.

Flamecaster by Cinda Williams Chima
I like the original and the redesign. I think the original was a bit too similar to the covers of its sister series, so I understand the change.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
The original cover was nothing to write home about, but the redesign is everything I never knew I needed in a book cover.

Tell me about your favorite or least favorite book cover redesigns in the comments below!

  3. Use the original tag image in your post.

  5. List the rules.

No Ideas but in Things”

A book cover that perfectly expresses the novel inside it.

Amanda- The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert. The cover is a little creepy, mysterious and leaves you to wonder what’s going to happen inside. The story is also a little creepy, mysterious and you can’t help but wonder what’s going to happen inside the Hazel Wood.

Antonia- I think all the covers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan fit the tone of the books really well.

“Sugary Sweet”

A cute cover that is so fluffy you want to give it a hug.

Amanda- The covers of The Selection series by Kiera Cass. The dresses are just so poofy and fluffy and I’d love to wear them and twirl like a princess.

Antonia- The Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts. The all have gorgeous wedding dresses on the covers with bouquets or wedding cakes but I can’t stop loving them.

“The Simple Aesthetic”

A book cover that stuns with the most minimalistic of designs.

Amanda- All four of the book covers in the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. I love these simple covers with the varying colors and the interesting crowns on each book.

Antonia- I love the cover for Turtles All the Way Down by John Green.

“Cover Envy”

A book cover you wish you had on your shelves but don’t yet.

Amanda- Gemina by Amie Kristoff & Jay Kristoff. I love this space-ish blue cover.

Antonia- Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Not only do I want these books because they sound amazing but because I love the covers.

“Traveling Abroad”

A book cover featuring a country outside your own.

Amanda- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling. Set in the UK, I love every single cover of all the books in this series. I love all of the different editions and various covers there are.

Antonia- The Revenant series by Amy Plum has gorgeous covers and since the books take place in Paris, you can see the Eiffel Tower on each of the covers.

“The Color Wheel”

A cover that showcases one of your favorite colors.

Amanda- The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco. Such a pretty purple and white cover.

Antonia- Graceling by Kristin Cashore has a beautiful green cover. I think it’s why I picked this book up for the first time.

“Switching Gears”

A cover change you absolutely adore.

Amanda- The 10-year anniversary edition of Looking for Alaska by John Green. The cover is a bit different from the original and I adore both covers, but the anniversary edition holds a special place in my heart (and on my shelf.)

Antonia- I can’t even describe how much more I prefer the new covers for the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi.

“And the Winner is…”

Which book cover mentioned above is your favorite?

Amanda- This is hard. Looking for Alaska is one of my favorite books of all time, but I love the cover of The Bone Witch and also The Hazel Wood. I think The Bone Witch is going to win.

Antonia- I think out of all of these, I’m most drawn to the covers for Throne of Glass.
