GoodReads Summary:
Talk about an embarrassing introduction. On her first day of law school, Kailyn ran – quite literally – into the actor she crushed on as a teenager, ending with him sprawled on top of her. Mortified to discover the Daxton Hughes was also a student in her class, her embarrassment over their meet-cute quickly turned into a friendship she never expected. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming either…
Now, eight years later, Dax is in her office asking for legal advice. Despite her anger, Kailyn can’t help feeling sorry for the devastated man who just became sole guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister. But when her boss gets wind of Kailyn’s new celebrity client, there’s even more at stake than Dax’s custody issues: if she gets Dax to work at their firm, she’ll be promoted to partner.
The more time Kailyn spends with Dax and his sister, the more she starts to feel like a family, and the more she realizes the chemistry they had all those years ago is as fresh as ever. But will they be able to forgive the mistakes of the past, or will one betrayal lead to another?
Review:
There’s just something about reading romance during the holiday season. I picked this one up in my attempt to read all of the GoodReads Choice Awards Nominees. I’m so glad that I did.
I freaking loved this book. It was so heartwarming and I loved every page. I love romance books that you just can’t seem to put down. This was exactly that. I stayed up entirely too late finishing this book.
Kailyn is a successful lawyer that is trying to make partner at her law office before she reaches age 30. She’s a girl that’s lost both of her parents and has had her share of grief. So, when Dax comes to her office, now the legal guardian of his younger sister, she can’t help but want to help him. One thing leads to another and she finds herself way more involved in the situation than she wants to be.
I loved the history that they shared. The hate to friends to lovers was just great. I really enjoyed their meeting and her completely fangirling and falling over herself. I also liked that Dax wasn’t a total jerk of a celebrity.
Dax was a character that I immediately liked. He is crushed by the loss of his parents, but doesn’t hesitate to change his entire life to take care of his sister. I really loved the family aspect of the story. It was heartwarming and wholesome as hell. It really made this book what it was.
The mystery that’s going on was a little predictable. Dax’s aunt, Linda, is fighting for custody of Emme as well. Hmmm, I wonder why? All because of good intentions, right? Read this and you shall find out.
Despite knowing the mystery, I really loved this. I loved the characters. I loved the relationship. I loved everything about it. It was such a fun read and I definitely recommend.
Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.
