The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

The fourth and final installment in the spellbinding series from the irrepressible, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.
All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love’s death. She doesn’t believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.
I am honestly so happy to finally have finished reading this series. The Raven Cycle series is so widely talked about. The books are either loved or hated. I feel that there are not very many in the middle opinions about this series because so many people don’t make it past the first book.
I listened to this series on audio because the narrator was incredible. He did an amazing job giving the characters different voices and differentiate between all of the characters. I will definitely be listening to other books with this narrator.
My problem with this series, its that the plot is very complicated. The third book ended with a big “oh shit” moment. But we didn’t pick back up on the info bomb we got until almost 50% of the way into The Raven King which really bothered me. How are you going to drop this huge plot twist at the end of a book and then not talk about it until halfway through the next book? I feel like because there were so many different characters and so many different things going on that the story wasn’t as clear as it could have been. There was a lot going on and I feel like some things got lost in the mess of everything else. I think the story was pretty interesting. There was just too much going on. I feel like this may be because the author plans to continue writing books in this world which is cool, but I think it could have been done differently.
I did absolutely love the characters. Four books later, I still love this little friend group. They have been through some shit at this point. I love the way they all have grown together. Though there was one relationshipy event that I did NOT see coming. I think I’m totally here for it, but I guess we will see once we get to the next series with these characters.
Overall, it was an interesting story with characters I found myself getting invested in. I understand the hype for this series, even if I’m not as crazy about it as some others may be.

Keep on reading lovelies, Amanda.
